About the role

Reporting to the R&D Chemistry Manager, the R&D Chemist III plays a key role in developing innovative chemical analysis methods and reagent solutions that directly support Hach’s mission of safeguarding water quality worldwide. This role drives high-impact product development, mentors emerging talent, and influences strategic decisions that shape the future of water analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and validating new chemical analysis methods for Hach instrumentation through independent research.
  • Creating reagent formulations, calibrations, and quality control procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborating with marketing, engineering, and operations to commercialize new or modified products and applications.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentorship to chemists, engineers, technicians, and interns.
  • Supporting manufacturing through chemistry expertise, training, and problem-solving to improve production efficiency.
  • Documenting development work, reviewing competitive literature, and translating market needs into product design decisions.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field with 0–2 years of experience; OR M.S. with 5+ years; OR B.S. with 12+ years of direct experience in chemistry manufacturing, product development, or R&D.
  • Demonstrated ability in chemistry design, characterization, functional testing, and problem-solving.
  • Expert-level proficiency in analytical laboratory techniques, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications

Pay

The compensation range for this role is $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 USD per year. This job is also eligible for Bonus Pay.
