About the role

The Chemist III position performs a variety of chemical and physical tests to establish the identity, composition, condition and/or quality of substances in a specialized area of assignment and performs other duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of chemical and physical tests to establish the identity, composition, condition and/or quality of substances in a specialized area of assignment.
• Interprets and evaluates the results of professional research or analyses by other chemists.
• Affirms the need for and validates proposed changes and improvements in laboratory procedures and methods.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in chemistry or a closely related science which included at least 30 semester credit hours in chemistry courses including organic, inorganic, analytical and/or physical chemistry.
• Specialized Experience: One year (1) of professional work experience which demonstrated the ability to apply the scientific laws and principles of chemistry to predict results; to interpret and evaluate the results of professional research or analyses by other chemists; or to assess the need for and validity of proposed changes and improvements in laboratory procedures and methods.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

• Legal Authorization To Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
• Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.
