The Quality Control (QC) Chemist I is an entry-level position for individuals who use their understanding of Analytical Chemistry to perform basic and routine experiments, including generation and analysis of data in a cGMP laboratory.
Responsibilities
- With guidance, perform quality control analytical testing in accordance with USP/FDA/ICH guidance and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Typical testing may include potency assay by UPLC/HPLC/IC/AA/UV, pH, density, KF, particulate matter, identification by IR, etc.
- Learn and understand requirements documented in SOPs, test methods, current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Operate lab equipment and perform basic maintenance and cleaning procedures.
- Weigh reference standards, reagents, and samples accurately and precisely using analytical balances.
- Perform accurate quantitative volumetric and gravimetric dilution using Class A volumetric glassware and analytical balances with proper mixing technique.
- Clearly document all laboratory activities following GDP.
- Maintain accurate written records of all analyses performed.
- Learn to interpret and communicate analytical results and issues clearly and quickly.
- Perform a variety of chemistry laboratory support activities, including purchasing, routine cleaning, and waste removal.
- Occasionally perform weekend and holiday duties to meet project timelines or when requested by management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or Life Sciences (preferred in Chemistry).
- General knowledge of Analytical Chemistry theory and the use and operation of basic laboratory equipment.
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Ability to effectively communicate and work with team members.
- Ability to perform analytical testing while standing for long periods of time.
- Mathematical skills, including the ability to analyze scientific and test data, and a basic understanding of statistical analysis.
