Position Summary
The Chemist is responsible for performing routine laboratory procedures in a quality control laboratory. Duties are performed under general supervision. Must be familiar with basic laboratory equipment and be able to demonstrate expertise in at least one essential testing technique.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs routine testing of samples according to established procedures.
- Performs testing in support of special projects as needed.
- Capable of independently operating laboratory instruments based on appropriate procedures.
- Prepares solutions, suspensions and media to perform essential laboratory tasks.
- Can demonstrate effective troubleshooting of at least one testing technique.
- Records data, performs calculations, evaluates and reports results.
- Performs peer review of data and provides critical analysis of laboratory systems.
- Keeps management apprised of progress.
- Follows all Data Integrity guidelines.
- Follows Good Laboratory Practices and Good Documentation Practices.
- Prioritizes workload and meets scheduled timelines, including managing multiple priorities.
- Informs supervisor of equipment and supply needs required to avoid delays in testing.
- Follows and complies with all and testing procedures, operating procedures, GMPs, and safety and health requirements as applicable.
- Practices safe handling of hazardous materials and waste using proper and techniques.
- Selected qualified associates, at the discretion of Quality Control/Quality Management, will be responsible for handling hazardous waste management.
- Conducts laboratory investigations as needed, including assisting in evaluation of others work.
- Trains other analysts on testing procedures.
- Periodically performs duties of a higher position for the purpose of training and development.
Experience and Education Requirements
- B.S. in chemistry preferred or Equivalent Experience
- 2+ years of experience in the food, pharmaceutical or supplement industry preferred
- Strong analytical skills with capacity for working with and communicating data trends.
- Proficiency with PC programs that are applicable to data generation and manipulation.
- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Strong organizational skills; including ability to manage multiple tasks and work well under pressure.
