Chemical Operator I
About the role
As a LD Chemical Operator at BASF ECMS, you will follow work instructions, procedures, and product specifications to add specified amounts of raw materials into vessels or blending tanks, set valves to feed liquid and solid materials through equipment units, weigh out quantities of powdered or liquid chemicals, start and monitor feed of solid or semi-solid materials through equipment units, adjust controls and valves to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure, and vacuum levels, observe chemical reactions, monitor gauges, samples, and data recorders, and make specified operating adjustments based on notifications from analytical laboratory, supervisor, or other workers.
Responsibilities
- Follow work instructions, procedures and product specifications
- Add specified amounts of raw materials into vessels or blending tanks
- Set valves to feed liquid and solid materials through equipment units
- Weigh out quantities of powdered or liquid chemicals, following formula sheets
- Start and monitors feed of solid or semi-solid materials through equipment units, such as mills, heating vessels and mixing tanks
- Dump pre-weighed ingredients into tanks, hoppers, or ball/continuous mills
- Adjust controls and valves to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure, and vacuum levels
- Observe chemical reactions; monitor gauges, samples and data recorders; and receive notification from analytical laboratory, supervisor, or other workers to make specified operating adjustments
- Observe gauges, and instruments, turn valves, and move controls to regulate temperatures, pressures, and flow of steam, coolant, and chemical constituents through system to effect prescribed reaction within critical limits, according to knowledge of equipment and process
- Draw samples of product at specified stages of synthesis and perform standard tests to determine if manufacturing is proceeding efficiently and in conformity with specifications
- Attach hoses, pumps or transfer equipment to move completed slurry to holding area or manufacturing coating equipment
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Demonstrated enhanced math and/or science ability (preferred)
- 2 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred)

Pay
$24.15 per shift, with a shift differential of $0.50/hr for day shift and $2.50/hr for night shift
