Chemical Management Specialist
About the role
The Junior Chemical Management Specialist will work as part of a team to maintain a comprehensive chemical management program across multiple UCSF campuses. Duties include receiving and unpackaging chemicals; adding chemicals to inventories using handheld scanners; barcoding chemical containers and entering information such as chemical name, physical state, & container types into the inventory system using a mobile app; delivering chemicals to laboratories; providing technical support and ad hoc training to end users of the purchasing system; and conducting routine reconciliation of both stockroom and laboratory chemical inventories.
Responsibilities
- Receiving and unpackaging chemicals
- Add chemicals to inventories using handheld scanners
- Barcode chemical containers and enter information into the inventory system using a mobile app
- Deliver chemicals to laboratories
- Provide technical support and ad hoc training to end users of the purchasing system
- Conduct routine reconciliation of both stockroom and laboratory chemical inventories

- Attention to detail and ability to follow detailed standard operating procedures
- Strong commitment to customer service
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of experience working in a laboratory or chemical stockroom
- College level chemistry and related laboratory course work
- Working knowledge of chemical hazards and laboratory safety protocols
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally
- Ability to read and interpret inventory practices and procedures used in the receipt, storage and distribution of chemicals
- Proficiency in the use of standard spreadsheet and word processing software (i.e. Microsoft suite of products – Word, Excel and Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
- Knowledge of storeroom and inventory practices, procedures used in the receipt, storage, and distribution of chemicals
Pay
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
