Chemical Lab Technician I

Location: Southfield, MI, 48033 – 100% onsite. 12-month assignment.

About the role

This position supports the development of solutions for the Coatings Industry in a chemistry laboratory. The role requires a strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the ability to operate with a high sense of urgency. You must work comfortably both in a team environment and independently, maintain the highest standards of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail, and adapt to daily priority changes.

Responsibilities

• Mix chemicals and prepare chemical solutions.
• Spray paint electrostatically or pneumatically.
• Test paint samples and physical test panels.
• Document all laboratory activities.
• Monitor chemical processes and test products for quality assurance.
• Set up lab equipment and conduct repetitive lab activities under the supervision of chemists.
• Conduct tests, interpret and analyze data, compile results, prepare reports, and present conclusions.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree with 2 years of practical laboratory experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field from an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
• College-level (Junior level) understanding of chemistry, physics, and engineering.
• Experience in laboratory activity performing experiments and familiarity with basic chemical mixing.
• Basic knowledge of chemical instrumentation, compatibility, handling, and storage.
• Proficient with basic computer skills, including email, MS Word, and MS Excel.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with high sensitivity to timelines.
• Proactive in task management and laboratory facilitation.

Skills

• Experience in vendor management (ordering and cataloging materials) is a plus.
• Experience in technical documentation is desired.

Schedule

Monday–Friday, 08:00 AM–04:30 PM.
