We are seeking a candidate to fill an immediate Lab Technician role in the Riverview, FL area.
About the role
Performs laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of heavy equipment oil for quality control or process control. Processes fluid samples in an efficient and organized manner that guarantees sample accuracy.
Responsibilities
- Sets up, adjusts, and operates laboratory equipment and instruments to test and analyze oil products.
- Calibrates laboratory instruments as necessary.
- Tests oil samples used in heavy equipment for qualities such as purity, stability, viscosity, and density.
- Verifies conformity to specifications.
- Ensures fluid samples are given the applicable test (e.g., wear metals, water, glycol, particle count, infrared, coolant analysis, fuel test).
- Records test results, prepares test reports, graphs, and charts as necessary.
- Prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
- Maintains history for all enrolled units and ensures records are accurate and complete.
- Communicates abnormal or urgent samples to customers and internal personnel as needed.
- Receives samples and breaks them down by branch, customer, and compartments daily.
- Ensures samples and test results are registered daily.
- Ensures all reports are prepared within 24 hours of receiving and copies are distributed to customers and appropriate personnel.
- Performs monthly inventory to ensure adequate supply levels.
- Ensures equipment maintenance and calibration requirements are completed daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly prior to operating lab equipment; keeps all log books current.
- Ensures the lab and equipment are kept clean, orderly, and safe; maintains supplies in a safe, neat, and organized manner.
- Performs tasks in a safe manner; wears all required personal protective equipment (e.g., goggles, gloves).
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or a related field.
- 2+ years of related lab experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- Lab experience should include any of the following: Titrations, Viscometer, GC, ICP, FTIR.
Schedule
This position is Monday-Friday with a start time of either 6am or 7am. The laboratory is a fast-paced environment with large workloads; overtime may be required at times.
