Chemical Engineering Co-Op- Purdue

Samtec, Inc., a $1B+ privately held, global electronic connector manufacturer headquartered in New Albany, Indiana, is seeking a Chemical Engineering or Chemistry Co-Op to work in a fast-paced, non-bureaucratic environment.

About the role

The co-op will work with the Plating Lab, Process Engineering, and the Materials Innovation Group to gain exposure to laboratory tests, electroplating techniques, and new plating research. Responsibilities include analyzing electroplating baths, completing projects, maintaining customer focus, and contributing to fundamental and applied research in emerging plating technologies.

The ideal candidate is creative, resourceful, and eager to explore new solutions while working collaboratively across plating teams.

Responsibilities

• Learn the Samtec electroplating process
• Perform analytical procedures (UV-Vis, ICP-OES) to monitor and maintain electroplating baths
• Complete post-plating quality checks, including gold usage and porosity analyses
• Investigate customer and internal quality problems
• Record and update plating process parameters using Samtec systems
• Troubleshoot plating line problems
• Assist in laboratory and plating process improvement projects
• Run electrochemical experiments and support R&D for new metal plating and methodologies
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment

Requirements

• Sophomore, Junior, or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective time management with the ability to handle multiple projects
