Chemical Category Manager
About the Role
Lab Alley is seeking a Chemical Category Manager to serve as the "Scientific Brain" of our fast-paced B2B eCommerce business. In this role, you will bridge complex chemical data with high-velocity commercial execution, acting as the portfolio architect to shape our product roadmap. You’ll work directly with the CEO and lead Chemist to ensure technical integrity remains "zero-error" as we scale, while driving cross-functional product launches and supply chain strategy.
Responsibilities
- Product & Supplier Lifecycle Management
- Orchestrate high-impact product launches by synchronizing workflows across Operations, Marketing, IT, and Customer Relations.
- Collaborate with the CEO and Chemist to translate product vision into actionable plans, working with Operations, Customer Relations, Finance, Marketing, and IT.
- Engineer and enforce a standardized process for adding new chemicals to our digital storefront, conducting quality audits to ensure technical accuracy and brand consistency.
- Product Information Management
- Act as the single source of truth for all product data, overseeing eCommerce product pages, documentation, and physical packaging labels (including generating final label PDFs).
- Champion customer satisfaction by translating feedback into vendor-side improvements and coordinating with Quality and Supply Chain teams to resolve root-cause issues.
- Guide Supply Chain and Purchasing teams on documentation requirements (e.g., certifications, country-of-origin details) for compliance, especially for international and domestic products.
Requirements
- Must-Haves
- 3+ years of progressive experience in Product Information Management, Product Development, Project Management, or a related role.
- Chemical Background: Degree in Chemistry or related field, or deep prior experience in chemicals.
- "Zero-error" mindset: Commitment to 100% accuracy in technical data for chemicals and B2B shipping.
- Proven ability to manage cross-functional workflows (Operations, IT, Marketing) to get products "shelf-ready" online.
- Analytical prowess: Proficiency in leveraging product data, sales results, and market insights for strategic decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to articulate complex information and influence stakeholders.
- Problem-solving aptitude: Ability to identify issues and advocate for effective solutions.
- Systems Fluency: Strong Excel skills and technical aptitude.
- Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with inventory management/ERP platforms.
- Full product lifecycle management experience, from ideation to post-launch optimization.
- Experience with product data management and documentation (e.g., technical data sheets, certifications, compliance).

Schedule
Full-time position (40 hours per week, occasional overtime) with a typical schedule of Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM.
