About the Role
Reporting to the shift supervisor, the Reactor Operator will produce chemical and pharmaceutical products in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate batch and continuous type reactors, high-pressure reactors, centrifuges, filters, solvent distillation equipment, and supporting equipment according to designated procedures.
- Monitor equipment, setting controls on valves, vacuums, pumps, and pressures to achieve desired results.
- Adjust process controls to maintain proper process variables using manual and computer-controlled devices.
- Clean all equipment (boil, scrape, or scrub out) following designated procedures.
- Assist in training new Pharma Reactor Operators.
- Drum compounds and hazardous waste, label according to standards, and transport to assigned areas.
- Maintain a clean work area and prevent environmental spills, ensuring wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) discharge limits are met.
- Interpret results and monitor processes using computer-controlled devices.
- Safely handle hazardous materials, including loading/unloading trucks, processing, packaging, and equipment cleanup.
- Complete operation log books in the Pharma area.
- Troubleshoot production line and equipment problems safely and effectively.
- Assist lab personnel with implementing new processes or process changes.
- Complete line entry, confined space, and hot work permits.
- Assist in writing and updating process procedures and SOPs.
- Adhere to all EPA, FDA, and cGMP regulations related to chemical production.
- Take samples for in-process and Quality Control analysis.
- Perform laboratory tests on process samples and act on results.
- Assume duties of Reactor Operator Chem I/II as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment or related business.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong mechanical aptitude/knowledge.
Physical Demands
- Standing and walking for long periods.
- Lifting and handling raw materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Use of proper PPE, including steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, and fire-retardant clothing.
Schedule
Shift assignment may vary. Must be able to work nights and/or every other weekend as per shift assignment.
