About the Role
The Head Cheer Coach provides oversight of all aspects of a collegiate cheer program, including recruiting prospective student-athletes and supervising volunteers and student workers.
Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and evaluate the performance and development of student-athletes both on and off the field and court.
- Coordinate marketing and promotional initiatives, oversee equipment maintenance, and prepare game and competition strategies.
- Coordinate team travel, develop and reconcile program budgets, and organize and conduct summer camps.
- Develop and implement daily practices (3-4 days per week) focusing on general conditioning, stunting, tumbling, team tactics, and other performance elements.
- Create on-field and court simulations of different cheers based on game/match events.
- Ensure the cheer team performs at all home football, volleyball, and basketball contests, as well as NCAA-sponsored championships.
- Review proper on- and off-field/court etiquette.
- Recruit student-athletes aligned with the University’s mission and values, meeting Department of Admissions standards.
- Regularly visit high school and junior college contests to build relationships with cheer programs.
- Provide academic, personal, and professional mentoring to student-athletes, fostering values of citizenship, integrity, cultural diversity, and respect.
- Develop and implement the team’s competition, training, and practice schedules in coordination with the Athletic Department’s Facility Director.
- Oversee all administrative functions for the Cheer Team, including preparing check requests, purchase orders, and advance requests.
- Coordinate with equipment staff to procure and manage uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
- Generate additional funds for the cheer program in conjunction with the Big Green Foundation.
- Utilize the Teamworks portal for submitting compliance paperwork related to camp attendance policies and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President and Director of Athletics.
