About the role

The role of a checker at Hy-Vee involves providing fast and friendly service to customers, assisting them with their shopping needs, and operating a cash register. This position requires a team-oriented approach and excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service
• Escorts customers to products, secures items, loads/unloads heavy items, and passes along customer suggestions or requests
• Answers the telephone and provides friendly, helpful service to customers
• Operates cash register accurately, scans product, and handles various payment methods
• Plants merchandise in bags or boxes, gives packages to customers, and assists courtesy personnel as needed
• Answers customer questions and concerns, and follows-up with appropriate personnel
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps
• Stocks, faces, rotates merchandise, cleans shelves, and maintains the store appearance
• Reports improper cash levels in cash drawer and helps maintain the store appearance
• Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required

• Perform physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
• Frequently exposed to temperature extremes and possible dampness
• Exposed to equipment movement hazards from a pallet jack, electrical shock, and exposure to chemicals and solvents
• Fast-paced work environment

• Arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
