About the role

The role of a checker at Hy-Vee involves providing fast and friendly service to customers in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. The primary responsibility is to assist customers with their shopping needs and ensure a positive shopping experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by greeting customers and addressing their needs.
• Escorts customers to products, secures items out of reach, loads/unloads heavy items, and passes along customer suggestions or requests.
• Answers the telephone and provides friendly, helpful service to customers.
• Operates a cash register, scans products, processes payments, and handles returns.
• Stocks, faces, rotates merchandise, cleans shelves, and maintains a clean and organized work area.
• Communicates clearly and distinctly on the intercom or telephone system.
• Reports to work on time and follows local, state, and company policies.

Requirements

• Must be able to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions.
• Must have the ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Must be able to perform the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to perform these tasks in a temperature and damp environment, and be aware of potential hazards from equipment and chemicals.

Qualifications

No formal education or experience is required. However, candidates should possess the ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies verbally or in writing.

Skills

Must be able to communicate clearly and distinctly, handle basic arithmetic, and perform physical tasks as described above.

Pay

The pay rate for this position is $15.00 per hour.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with hours typically ranging from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Saturday.
