This is a part-time, unpaid internship position that is game-day only with no office hours required. College credit is offered.

About the role

The Charlotte Checkers are seeking candidates for Game Operations Staff to assist all members of the ticketing, marketing, and corporate departments specifically during game days throughout the 2026-27 season. This position focuses on in-game presentation and execution and involves heavy interaction with the Checkers’ fan base.

The Checkers will play a 36-game home schedule from October 2026 to early April 2027, with playoffs potentially extending the season until mid-June.

Responsibilities

  • Work at least 85% of Charlotte Checkers home games (weekdays and weekends).
  • Assist in preparing, executing, and cleaning up game operation activities.
  • Support Charlotte Checkers Marketing staff in all pregame or post-game events as assigned.
  • Assist with in-game production and promotional activities, including:
    • Selecting contestants for on-ice games and in-game promotions.
    • Finding Zamboni riders.
    • Monitoring interactive concourse tables.
    • Coordinating group outings.
  • Interact with Charlotte Checkers Hockey Operations staff, Bojangles Coliseum staff, CRVA staff, corporate partners, and guests.
  • Place and organize partner signage.
  • Assist with partnership activation, including concourse marketing.
  • Support promotional giveaways and couponing initiatives.
  • Assist sales staff with in-arena fan experiences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a college degree in Sport Management, Marketing, or a closely related field.
  • Some experience in marketing and/or customer service.
  • Innovative, self-starter, and independent with a strong work ethic.
  • Energetic, organized, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, members, and the public.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Moderate noise level, with louder conditions during events.
  • Flexibility to work long and irregular hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Availability

  • Must be able to attend at least 85% (30 of 36) of Charlotte Checkers home games at Bojangles Coliseum, with potential playoffs lasting until June.
  • Accommodations for student schedules can be made if absences are reported with advance notice.
