Charge Registered Nurse RN - Oncology

About the role

5 East, Oncology is a 22-bed unit that specializes in the care of patients with a diagnosis or history of cancer. 5E also sees a variety of medical-surgical patients ranging from pneumonia and COPD to CHF and diabetes. Common surgical procedures for 5 East include biopsies, EGDs, lithotripsy, and cholecystectomies.

Responsibilities

• Career Development: Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned area.
• Staff Management: Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
• Performance Evaluation: Contribute to or perform performance evaluations of staff.
• Patient Care Assessment: Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population-appropriate patient care is given.
• Evaluation and Improvement: Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
• Complaint Management: Respond to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• Staff Development: Provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.

Requirements

• Licensure / Certification / Registration: BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. ACLS and PALS may be required in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6-months of date hire or transfer.
• Education: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required.
• Experience: 1 year of cumulative job-specific experience required.
