About the Role

Lead staff, manage operational processes, and ensure patient needs are met to positively impact patient care and outcomes. Utilize best practices and leadership skills to reach maximum potential as a frontline leader.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and families; communicate with Case Manager regarding both in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
  • Provide support to MedSurg and SCU, and serve as a resource for all staff during shift.
  • Take patient assignment when census is high or to cover sick call/vacation.
  • Oversee charge assignment, including other staff RNs, LPNs, LNAs, and Health Unit Coordinators.
  • Monitor patient care and staff assignments, including patient rounding and prioritizing staff needs for the shift.
  • Serve as the primary clinical resource for Staff LPNs, including administering initial doses of IV push medications, performing initial head-to-toe assessments for LPN admissions, initiating/discontinuing restraints, and handling tasks outside LPN license constraints.
  • Facilitate staff breaks and meals.
  • Respond to changes in workload by adjusting assignments to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency.
  • Provide direction and coordination during emergency situations (e.g., disasters, fires, code situations) and drills.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager in planning, organizing, directing, implementing, and evaluating nursing care and activities of an assigned nursing unit.
  • Recommend and help implement new technology and changes in hospital policy and procedures.
  • Assist in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  • Help make scheduling adjustments to cover staffing vacancies.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager in implementing and evaluating performance improvement indicators and quality initiatives to improve patient outcomes and the work environment.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong delegation, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical experience in an acute care setting, including but not limited to:
    • Vascular Access Management
    • NG Tube Placement and Management
    • Wound/Skin Care
    • Telemetry/Cardiac Dysrhythmias
    • EKGs
    • Tube Feedings
    • Accessing/De-accessing Mediports
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Qualifications

  • Licensed RN with NH eligibility.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
