About the role

Facilitates the day to day operation and quality of patient care delivered on the clinical unit, under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Responsible for the evaluation and prioritization of activities to meet the changing unit demands on a shift-to-shift basis.

Assumes specific management responsibilities assigned by the Clinical Nurse Manager to assure the continuity of leadership on the unit.

Assists the Clinical Nurse Manager with the development and evaluation of nursing staff and departmental associates.

Actively supports the organization’s mission, vision and values.

Facilitates implementation of service management philosophy.

Represents unit in hospital committees.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Current licensure in the State of Arkansas.
• Two to five years of clinical experience as an RN.
• Able to practice nursing as described by the nursing process.
• ACLs, PALS, NALS, or ARORA certified as applicable to clinical area.
• Leadership abilities and good communication skills.

Job Knowledge

Ability to practice nursing as described by the following definition: "The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health alterations."

Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering prescribed treatments, medications and diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care using the problem list, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others.

Physical Requirements

• Maintains good physical and emotional well being.
• Requires a considerable amount of physical work.
• Lifting and moving patients, pushing carts, wheelchairs, and other equipment.
• Lifting or pushing up to 50 pounds.
• Bending over to perform certain duties.
• Moving throughout the halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.
• Interpreting environmental input requires visual and auditory skills.
• A significant amount of writing and computer entry is required.
• Trips to various departments will be required.
• Heavy exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
• Exposure to infectious wastes and body fluids may mandate the wearing of gloves, masks, gowns, and goggles.
