About the role

The Charge RN functions within the scope of practice as defined by the State and the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice. They are responsible for the planning, organization, and delivery of safe and timely patient and family care for all patients on the unit during each shift or for providing direct patient care. They apply the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate interactions with staff, patients, and families of all ages. They utilize the nursing process to oversee and coordinate patient care for the entire unit patient population during their assigned shift.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in meeting Seattle Children's strategic plans by incorporating initiatives such as Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc. into daily work.
  • May have a call obligation within their nursing position due to clinical unpredictable needs in areas such as Apheresis, Cardiac Cath Lab, Dialysis, ECMO, Home Care Services, Imaging Services (including GI Procedures), Perioperative Services, Transplant Coordinators, and others as outlined by House Bill 1155.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Minimum one year nursing experience is required, with preference given to those with current experience in the area hiring, e.g., Peri Operative Services, PICU, etc., and in pediatrics.
  • Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions.
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers.
  • ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute to the requirements listed above.
  • Employees are responsible for any costs (including time away from work) associated with obtaining PALS or PEARS certification if it is not a requirement of the position.
  • Charge Nurses working in certain areas are required to successfully obtain PALS within 6 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times.
  • Charge Nurses working in the Emergency Department, PICU, CICU, or Airlift Northwest are required to obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification by 9/30/18, or within 3 months of position entry, whichever is later.

  • More than one year Pediatric health care nursing experience.

Pay

$51.60 - $91.30 per hour

Schedule

Full-time position (2080 hours worked per calendar year)
