Charge Nurse- Behavioral Health
About the Role
Provides safe, age-appropriate patient care and functions as advisor, resource, and leader for other members of the patient care team. This position supports the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) and 4A unit, which provide general, acute care for inpatient adults experiencing mental or behavioral health issues. The 4A unit has a capacity of 12 beds, while the BHU has a census capacity of 23 beds. Patients may present with depression, schizophrenia, substance abuse, or mood disorders.
Staff may also work in one of two 6-bed ER areas (North Pod and West Pod), which accommodate adults, adolescents, or children in acute psychiatric crisis. The majority of nursing staff cross-train across all three areas. Strong organizational, leadership, and assessment skills are essential, along with a positive and outgoing demeanor.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree (2 years college) or equivalent formal working knowledge in a specialized field
- 2 or more years of experience in a clinical specialty
- Nursing certification in specialty area within 3–5 years of hire
- 1–3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Maryland Registered Nurse License
- American Heart Association BLS Certification
Pay
Pay range: $40.12 to $62.19 per hour, based on experience.
