About the Opportunity: The Charge Capture Specialist reviews and validates medical billing records to ensure accurate and compliant charge capture. This role performs detailed comparisons of clinical documentation against billed charges, identifies discrepancies, supports audit defense, and helps resolve patient billing issues. The position contributes to revenue accuracy, billing integrity, and clear financial communication with patients. Responsibilities: • Extract and reconcile medical records and billing details line by line against billed charges.• Validate procedural and diagnostic codes, modifiers, units, and dates of service against clinical documentation.• Apply coding and billing guidelines, including NCCI PTP, MUE, OCE, and applicable coverage determinations.• Defend billed charges against audit findings from payor vendors.• Develop structured audit rebuttals supported by citations from authoritative guidelines, contracts, and applicable requirements.• Negotiate with audit vendors within authorized limits and escalate matters as appropriate.• Review and resolve patient billing disputes while providing clear and accurate explanations.• Escalate suspected billing errors for adjustment or write-off in accordance with established policies.• Maintain detailed case logs documenting status, financial impact, actions, and outcomes.• Prepare standardized audit reports summarizing findings, discrepancies, and root causes.• Navigate electronic health record systems and auditing software to support charge capture and audit workflows.• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, HITRUST, and other applicable regulatory and organizational standards.• Participate in internal quality assurance audits and implement corrective actions as required. Requirements: • Proficiency in interpreting complex clinical records and cross-referencing documentation against billing data.• Strong technical writing skills with the ability to objectively document and defend audit findings.• Understanding of how charge adjustments affect revenue, billing accuracy, and financial integrity.• Ability to meet turnaround time requirements while maintaining a high level of accuracy.• Ability to maintain sustained concentration during multi-hour reviews of complex cases.• Strong commitment to confidentiality and appropriate handling of protected health information.• Professional demeanor with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships across all organizational levels.
