Position Details
Variable shifts, weekend coverage required.
Essential Functions
- Affords support to patients, families, and caregivers in coping with psychological, social, emotional, and spiritual needs.
- Promotes a patient-centered attitude of care.
- Provides spiritual care to patients, families, caregivers, and physicians/advanced care providers via individual and group interactions.
- Synthesizes data through patient care and interactions with family and other interdisciplinary team members to provide whole person care.
- Documents ongoing spiritual assessment, interventions, and outcomes.
- Collaborates actively as a member of interdisciplinary teams.
- Assists patients and families with advance directives and end-of-life resources.
- Supports transition, bereavement, and loss processes.
- Participates in multidisciplinary patient rounds, care conferences, ethics consultations, and documents appropriately in patients' electronic medical records.
- Responds to crisis situations, including pager coverage for required hours.
- Assists with the development of the department's plan for continuous quality improvement.

Required Qualifications
- One unit of Accredited Clinical Pastoral Education meeting approval of NACC/APC, completed within the first 18 months of hire.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Documentation from ecclesial judicatory body of current endorsement and/or reference prescribed in accordance with applicant’s spiritual/faith tradition (received or reaffirmed within the last 12 months) articulating current endorsement/authorization for hospital chaplaincy ministry and applicant’s good standing with endorsing/authorizing body.
- Knowledge and respect of the religious beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, denominations, and philosophies.
- Ability to provide pastoral/spiritual counsel to people during periods of stress.
- Appropriate and professional documentation in the electronic medical record and other departmental, site or system-based data tracking.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree completion of Accredited Graduate Theological Degree (MDiv or Equivalent).
- Two or more units of Accredited Clinical Pastoral Education.
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
- Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate supplies and equipment with precision and accuracy.
- This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
