Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose.
  • Interacts with companies, their employees, and the community in a manner that exhibits character through personal and spiritual disciplines.
  • Serves as a regular presence at company worksites to build trust and friendship.
  • Visits employees or immediate family members to express care and provide help, including dealing with personal issues like divorce, illness, and grief.
  • Provides referrals and coordinates specialized assistance for employees and their families.
  • Assists in planning, conducting, or attending funerals for employees and immediate family members.
  • Supports laid-off or terminated employees during transitions to new work environments.
  • Facilitates or leads spiritual enrichment activities as appropriate.
  • Represents companies to clients/customers in ministry services involving serious illness, accidents, traumatic events, and funerals.
  • Participates in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and the role of the Chaplain Team.
  • Responds positively and assertively to other duties and services requested by executive leadership of companies, within the scope of the Letter of Agreement.

Position Summary

Chaplains are the frontline staff fulfilling the mission and Christian ministry of MCHAP. They use their gifts and talents to serve company employees and their immediate families. Their role involves making brief visits to company worksites, interacting with employees to build trust and friendship, and providing confidential pastoral discussions for personal issues. They also visit employees or immediate family members in various settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, and family residences, and may assist in planning and conducting funerals. Chaplains may also provide post-termination care for laid-off or terminated employees and facilitate spiritual enrichment activities as appropriate.
