The Role

As our Chaplain, you will serve as a vital spiritual leader and compassionate caregiver within our hospital community, providing essential spiritual counseling and support to patients, families, and staff.

You will be expected to provide direct spiritual, religious, and existential care, offering compassionate presence, support, and appropriate rituals to patients, families, and staff, especially during times of crisis or grief. You will collaborate with the healthcare team to advocate for spiritual needs and integrate holistic care, ensuring respect for diverse beliefs.

Requirements

  • Masters, Other Theology from an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, and supervised hospital chaplain experience of at least one year, which may include Clinical Pastoral Education
  • Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education accredited by ACPE
  • Board Certified Chaplain APC, or
  • BCC - JEWISH CHAPLAIN, or
  • BCC - CANADIAN SPIRITUAL, or
  • Certified Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education, or
  • Board Certified Chaplain BCC, or
  • Catholic Chaplain

Preferred

  • Acute care, hospice or long term care

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must be a highly compassionate individual, comfortable and skilled in engaging with people who may be emotional, panicked, stressed, or in pain. You'll need the proven ability to provide empathetic care, adapt to diverse spiritual needs, and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides spiritual and emotional care to patients, their families as well as hospital staff.
  • Provides pastoral care and counseling consistent with the plan of treatment developed for each patient.
  • Trikes patient needs and completes initial visits to newly admitted patient in a timely manner, including documented comprehensive spiritual assessments and care plans. Completes an average of 12 substantive patient care visits per 8- hour shift. Assists patients in completing Advance Directive paperwork.
  • Provides for and participates in hospital dedication/blessing ceremonies as well as provide religious ritual/services for patients, families, staff and volunteers as requested and appropriate.
  • Participates regularly in interdisciplinary rounds on the units to which he/she is assigned.
  • Takes an active role in addressing concerns with patients, families, other health professionals and physicians by participating in clinical case and family conferences.
  • Maintains availability for ministry in crises including all codes, deaths, Emergency Room (Trauma) calls and disasters.
