About the role

As Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services at Creighton University Medical Center CHI Health, you will serve as a visionary leader of Pathology & Microbiology Services and expand the department’s clinical, research, and educational activities. You will provide world-class leadership within an established department offering a comprehensive range of general and specialized diagnostic pathology services, operating in a combined hospital setting with a large, well-established referral base inside a far-reaching, integrated healthcare system. The department’s clinical training and patient-care missions are delivered in partnership with CHI Health, the university’s academic health system, which includes multiple hospitals, the Henry Lynch Cancer Center, and a large multispecialty physician group serving the Omaha region. In alignment, the Creighton School of Medicine and CHI Health integrate biomedical discovery with high-quality, innovative clinical care, offering students and trainees hands-on experience across diverse hospitals, clinics, and community settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall academic, clinical, and administrative leadership for the Department of Pathology, setting strategic direction and aligning faculty, operations, and outreach with the priorities of the Creighton University School of Medicine and CHI Health
  • Dedicate time to clinical service and case sign-out
  • Collaborate with health system leadership to optimize operational efficacy, clinical access, and service reliability
  • Direct departmental operations and fiscal performance
  • Cultivate robust enterprise-wide alliances to elevate the department’s reputation and patient impact
  • Advance the educational mission by supporting a high-quality GME program and a strong learning environment
  • Build upon and expand the department’s research and scholarly productivity through interdisciplinary collaboration and external funding
  • Develop a cohesive culture and shared strategic vision
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain faculty and staff to meet the evolving needs of a growing academic health system
  • Report to the Dean of the Creighton University School of Medicine and the President of the CHI Clinic Enterprise
  • Support a diverse culture where academic and community physicians collaborate

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution
  • Board certification or eligibility from the American Board of Pathology (Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology)
  • Active or eligible license in the state of Nebraska
  • Credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor (clinical scholar or tenure pathway)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with healthcare professionals
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Proven and substantial leadership experience, with the ability to be a collaborative and inclusive leader

Pay

$561,159 – $661,993 per year
