About the Role
The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine (JCESOM) at Marshall University seeks an exceptional candidate for the position of Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The department is a comprehensive academic unit providing a full spectrum of women’s health services, including general obstetrics and gynecology, maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic surgery, gynecologic oncology, reproductive health, urogynecology, and pediatric and adolescent gynecology. It operates one of only two in-vitro fertilization labs in West Virginia and delivers care at Marshall Health Network – Cabell Huntington Hospital and ambulatory sites across the region, supporting both tertiary and community-based women’s health services.
Responsibilities
- Academic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to advance the department’s growth and foster a culture of excellence. Collaborate with Marshall Health Network leadership to enhance clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and research initiatives. Ensure high standards in medical education for students, residents, and fellows, while mentoring faculty.
- Clinical Oversight: Oversee planning, funding, and sustainability of departmental activities, maintaining required accreditations and certifications. Develop budgets and manage financial aspects of clinical operations in partnership with hospital administration. Expand services to rural communities across West Virginia and surrounding regions.
- Research and Scholarly Advancement: Guide and grow a collaborative research environment, supporting faculty in securing extramural funding and developing translational research programs. Address departmental research infrastructure and resource needs.
- Faculty Development and Recruitment: Recruit, retain, and develop a diverse, high-performing faculty. Conduct evaluations, provide mentorship, and support professional growth through development opportunities and performance recognition. Encourage interdisciplinary academic collaboration.
- Strategic and Fiscal Management: Collaborate with the Dean and leadership team to shape and implement a strategic vision aligned with institutional goals. Oversee the department budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and effective resource allocation.
- Institutional and Community Engagement: Represent the department within the medical school, university, and external partnerships. Serve on key committees and advance institutional priorities. Foster community partnerships, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a culture of transparency and shared purpose among faculty, learners, and staff.
