About the role

The Department of Neurology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a visionary leader to serve as Chair. Founded in 1871, the department is renowned for its pioneering work in neurology and its deep integration into Penn Medicine and the broader community.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee nearly 200 full-time and associated faculty members across 20 clinical divisions and programs, including 465 professional and support staff.
  • Direct clinical operations at 12 outpatient facilities, managing over 70,000 outpatient visits and 26,000 consults in FY2025.
  • Lead clinical and educational activities at major hospitals including the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Hospital, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
  • Serve as a member of the Board of Directors for the Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP).

Requirements

  • MD degree with active board certification in neurology.
  • Dual degrees are welcome.
  • Faculty appointment as Associate Professor or Professor rank in the Standing Faculty of the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM).
  • Strong leadership skills suitable for a matrixed environment.
  • Experience developing and executing innovative strategies.
  • Effective clinical operations management.
  • A highly respected academic record.
  • A commitment to faculty development, retention, and recruitment.
  • Experience in development and donor relations.

Qualifications

  • Active board certification in neurology.
