Chair, Department of Endodontics
Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) invites applications for the position of Chair, Department of Endodontics. This is a full-time 12-month appointment on either a clinical or tenure-track (preferably tenure-track) at the rank of associate professor or full professor, based on credentials and qualifications. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2027, or sooner.
About the Role
The Department of Endodontics is responsible for the endodontics education of pre-doctoral dental students and graduate students in our Endodontics residency program. The Department Chair provides leadership for the vision, strategic direction, and long-term growth of the department in alignment with the mission and priorities of the School of Dentistry.
The Chair reports to the Dean and works collaboratively with other members of the Dean’s cabinet, including department chairs and associate deans, as well as the Office of Clinical Affairs team to support effective clinical education, patient care, and faculty development.
Responsibilities
- Oversee departmental operations, faculty and staff supervision, curriculum management, and fiscal stewardship.
- Mentor and evaluate faculty; provide input on promotion, tenure, reappointment, and merit processes.
- Ensure high-quality didactic and clinical education within the full scope of Endodontics.
- Manage departmental curriculum and academic workload assignments, aligning teaching responsibilities with clinical operations.
- Ensure compliance with CODA accreditation standards and institutional policies.
- Support faculty scholarship and professional growth.
- Communicate regularly with the Dean and participate in school leadership and committee meetings.
- Serve as a key liaison between departmental faculty and School administration.
- Provide clinical and classroom teaching and supervision.
- Supervise and mentor residents in research related to their postdoctoral program.
- Assist in the preparation of postdoctoral dental students for specialty board examinations.
Requirements
- DDS, DMD, or equivalent professional degree.
- Completion of a CODA-accredited advanced specialty education program in endodontics.
- Board certification by the American Board of Endodontics.
- Eligibility for non-restricted dental license in the State of Indiana.
