About the role
The College of Education at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Chair and Professor for the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in Boca Raton, FL. The department chair serves as a senior faculty member and administrator, overseeing faculty recruitment and development, instructional program quality, research and service coordination, personnel evaluation, and external representation. The chair collaborates with the dean to develop the department’s budget, manage course schedules across 15+ programs, administer allocated funds, and work closely with program coordinators and committees. This role also involves evaluating faculty and staff, managing departmental resources, and fostering effective relationships within and beyond the department as part of the COE’s leadership team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction or a related area from an accredited institution.
- Hold the rank of full professor at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Leadership experience in preservice and in-service teacher education or related fields.
- Administrative, managerial, and financial acumen to lead an academic department effectively.
- Proven success as a collaborative leader with strong communication and interpersonal skills in diverse environments.
- Record of teaching, research, and service demonstrating a commitment to public education.
- Experience and success in building constructive partnerships with large school districts.
