About the role

You will lead a team of faculty and staff in building a substantial reputation for the quality of the department while fulfilling the mission, vision, and values of the university.

Responsibilities

  • Create a strong sense of collegiality within the department and of shared responsibility for the department’s goals.
  • Work with faculty on curriculum development, assessment activities, and policy/procedure requirements and implementation, including course schedules and facility use.
  • Conduct classroom observations and annual faculty performance evaluations.
  • Aid in hiring faculty, ensuring mentoring and faculty development opportunities, and overseeing the departmental budget.
  • Make decisions on student academic matters, assist in recruiting students, review graduate student applications, and track placement of students in internships and careers.
  • Teach courses, as determined by the number of contact hours listed in the employment agreement.
  • Oversee and guide the work of department faculty and staff, support and mentor students, and collaborate with academic leaders, faculty, and support staff across departments and university locations.
  • Model academic and professional leadership and ensure that all faculty and staff of the department work toward achieving the university’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Ensure that all services related to academic offerings of the department are planned and delivered at the highest quality and without interruptions.
  • Maintain a visible on-site presence and ensure that university policies and procedures are administered without exceptions.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree (or equivalent) in the discipline or in a relevant field.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience in academics or significant professional experience in an appropriate discipline.
  • Distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and/or professional expertise.
  • A successful career as a faculty member and/or discipline professional, including a reputation for model leadership, excellence in the field, high standards, and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, interpersonal communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.
