About the role
We are seeking an accomplished Chief Financial Officer for a contract position to lead financial planning, stewardship, and organizational decision support. This executive will guide the financial direction of the organization by strengthening reporting, forecasting, compliance, and long-range strategy across the business. The ideal candidate brings strong executive leadership, sound fiscal judgment, and the ability to translate complex financial data into practical recommendations for senior leaders and board stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Shape financial strategy in partnership with executive leadership to support organizational priorities and sustainable growth.
- Direct budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes, using data-driven analysis to inform key decisions.
- Oversee preparation and delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership, board, and committee review.
- Maintain effective internal controls, asset protection practices, and accurate accounting operations across the organization.
- Lead cash management, banking relationships, investment oversight, and broader capital planning activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, contracts, grant requirements, and financial reporting standards.
- Build and manage high-performing finance and accounting teams, providing leadership through the Controller and related staff.
- Present financial insights and planning recommendations to the board, finance committee, auditors, public officials, and external financial partners.
- Develop forward-looking models that evaluate revenue streams, operational performance, and financial risks.
Requirements
- 15+ years of progressive finance leadership experience, including senior-level responsibility for organizational financial strategy.
- Demonstrated expertise in cash flow analysis, capital management, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and compliance within complex organizations.
- Experience leading accounting and finance teams while driving accuracy, accountability, and operational excellence.
- Ability to interpret financial and business systems data and convert findings into executive-level recommendations.
- Proven success presenting to boards, committees, auditors, lenders, or other external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across executive, operational, and governance groups.
