About the role
This role offers the flexibility to be remote, with travel as needed for specific projects. In this role, you will be responsible for managing multiple client relationships while leading a team of professionals delivering advisory services tailored to not-for-profit entities.
Responsibilities
- Manage client relationships and oversee engagement management
- Aid clients with financial close processes, including improving month-end and year-end close cycles for not-for-profit entities
- Support accounting transitions and special projects, such as cash-to-accrual accounting, opening balance sheet preparation, consolidation accounting, and other transaction or reporting needs
- Lead technical accounting projects related to ASC 958 (Not-for-Profit Entities), revenue recognition (ASC 606 with contributions vs. exchange transactions), leases (ASC 842), and other relevant standards
- Provide guidance on net asset classification (with and without donor restrictions), grant accounting, and contribution revenue recognition
- Provide recommendations related to finance policies, procedures, and operating model support
- Support clients with internal financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management
- Guide clients on finance systems, reporting tools, and related process improvements, including implementation support, system optimization, and data/reporting needs
- Assist clients with information and reporting needs related to Form 990 and other state or federal reporting requirements, as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve internal controls, governance, and financial processes
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA license
- Five or more years of experience within a public accounting firm and/or industry environment performing audit, controllership, or consulting services, with experience serving not-for-profit organizations, foundations, higher education, healthcare, or NGOs preferred
- Proven experience and interest in technical accounting matters, particularly within the not-for-profit sector
- Strong organizational skills, including experience planning and leading projects from start to finish
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously while working independently and collaboratively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders such as boards of directors, finance committees, and executive leadership
- Strong analytical and diagnostic skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
- Willingness to travel as needed (up to 40%)
Qualifications
- Experience working within not-for-profit accounting departments or advisory environments
- Familiarity with systems commonly used in the NFP sector, such as Blackbaud, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Workday, or QuickBooks
- Experience with grant tracking, donor management systems, or restricted fund reporting
- Experience supporting single audits (Uniform Guidance) and compliance reporting
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and management reporting
- Experience with financial process improvement tools and data analytics platforms, such as Excel, Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau, or similar tools
