A Youth Peer Support role at OhioGuidestone offers a unique opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of young people facing behavioral health challenges. This position is designed to provide peer-based support, guidance, and resources to those who need it most.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the values and guiding principles of OhioGuidestone every day, performing with the highest standards of excellence, integrity, and ethics.
  • Provide peer-based support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges.
  • Meet with clients regularly, adjusting frequency of contact based on client needs and in consultation with a supervisor.
  • Assist clients in crisis situations and provide stabilization support when needed.
  • Educate clients on behavioral health, available resources, and pathways to support.
  • Connect clients with community resources and help them build supportive sober networks.
  • Promote client empowerment through self-advocacy, development of life skills, and activities that encourage independence.
  • Create and maintain positive peer interactions that promote wellness, resiliency, and recovery through individualized treatment plans.
  • Promote client navigation of the healthcare system and coordination of services with other providers and agencies.
  • Accompany clients to meetings, appointments, visitations, or court hearings as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, ensuring confidentiality of client information in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and program assessments; support compliance with funder requirements.
  • Collaborate with other professionals and maintain ongoing communication with community partners and support networks.
  • Meet established productivity standards while modeling recovery, adhering to the Certified Peer Supporter Code of Ethics, and demonstrating consistent reliability and professionalism.
  • Exhibit positivity, flexibility, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership, promote a team-based work environment, and a culture of belonging.
  • Present the Agency in the most positive light with all internal and external contacts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification in Youth Peer Support.
  • Must be between the ages of 18 - 30 to adhere to program criteria.
  • Part of Greater Cleveland Works training cohort.
  • Lived experience with behavioral health challenges (mental health/substance use disorder).
  • Strong knowledge of community, county, and court resources preferred.

Qualifications

  • Mission driven; strong desire to make an impact.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; able to speak effectively with individuals and/or groups of people.
  • Flexible; able to work days, evenings, and/or weekends, as desired to meet the needs of clients.
  • Strong organizational skills; able to handle multiple priorities with strict attention to detail and perform work independently.
  • Effective computer literacy skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic health records, etc.
  • Must be able to access work locations, offices, and homes as necessary, which may include ascending/descending stairs.
  • Possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment screenings, including drug tests, background checks, and any other required assessments, such as a physical examination and TB test.
