About the Role

Perform daily inspections of construction projects monitoring quality and adherence to building code requirements, construction drawings, and project specifications. The role involves inspecting materials, components, and welds for compliance with design documents and industry standards, as well as conducting NDE and field testing. Prepare detailed inspection reports, document observations and test results, and communicate findings to senior inspectors or project managers. Collaborate with the project team to resolve potential issues while strictly adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and specified procedures to determine if work is done according to contract specifications.
  • Reads and interprets construction drawings and specifications.
  • Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal to the Project Manager.
  • Communicates information to Project Manager and other personnel as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Drafts inspection reports for review by senior inspector and/or Project Managers.
  • May assist more senior inspectors on projects.
  • Coordinates pre-dispatch activities with Project, Department, and/or Office Managers.
  • Maintains equipment operation and calibration.
  • Drives a vehicle such as a Ford F-150 or equivalent.
  • Follows safety rules and practices and performs pre-task planning prior to executing work.
  • Reports any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology preferred.
  • Minimum 2-4 years’ experience as an NDT Inspector or other applicable experience.
  • 2-4 years' experience in construction inspection preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI-D1.1).
  • ICC Certification (Structural Steel - Bolting) or ability to obtain within 4-8 weeks.

Preferred Certifications

  • American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification (Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT)).
  • Other national, regional, state, and local materials-related certifications requiring experience and written examination, if deemed appropriate by the Terracon Department Manager.
