Intertek, a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab (NRTL) and leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our Professional Services Industries Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Charlotte, North Carolina. A signing bonus of up to $1,000 is available.

About the Role

The CWI is responsible for employing their knowledge and training of welding processes, test methods, discontinuities, materials, qualifications, and standards to ensure that weldments and weld-related activities comply with all applicable quality and safety criteria.

Intertek's Building & Construction division is a suite of industry-leading brands across multiple architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines. We develop innovative product and project solutions, offering project-related assurance, testing, inspection, and consulting services as a risk management and quality assurance partner. Professional Service Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) provides construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety and environment guidelines, policies, and regulations
  • Testing and inspection of structural steel during erection on general building and pipeline sites, as well as occasional plant inspections
  • Inspect general construction and structural steel erection for buildings
  • Perform visual inspections on welded products in progress and completed jobs
  • Inspect welding jobs for defects such as cracks, porosity, undercut, etc.
  • Record results of tests and welding inspections
  • Able to issue and follow up on non-conformances until close out
  • Plan and conduct analysis, inspection, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned product or component
  • Review all welded products or components and provide input on acceptance or rejection
  • Document data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures
  • Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provide recommended process improvements to management
  • Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications
  • Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers
  • Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (e.g., soil, concrete, or other) and provide assessment of data through reporting
  • Operate a calculator to calculate mathematical test results
  • Adhere to safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety and the safety of others

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification with D1.1 experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand and interpret tolerances
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to receive, understand, and execute written and verbal directions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and with others
  • Ability to periodically work off shifts and overtime
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical Degree in Welding
  • Construction materials testing experience
