About the Role

Certified Teaching Assistants (CTAs) provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a Certified Teacher.

Qualifications

NYSD Certification as a Teaching Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Work with individual students or groups of students on special instructional projects.
  • Provide the teacher with information about students which will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning and behavioral experiences.
  • Assist students in the use of available instructional resources, and assist in the development of instructional materials.
  • Utilize special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in areas such as: foreign languages, arts, crafts, music, and similar subjects.
  • Assist in related instructional work as required.
  • Assist students with specific health-related activities as appropriate.
  • Maintain instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records (e.g., lessons, attendance, pencils, paper, teaching supplies) to ensure availability of items, provide written reports, or meet mandated requirements.
  • Perform general clerical tasks to help the teacher prepare instructional materials.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to carry out instruction furnished in written or oral form.
  • Ability to understand, apply, and use personal computers and software applications.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others.
  • Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to report work orally and in writing to supervisor as required.

Pay

$20.09 - $34.28/hour (2026/2027)
