Job Responsibilities
- Supporting students across the curriculum.
- Works with individual students as directed by teacher.
- Aids the teacher with marking and correcting work.
- Aids with school events, trips, and other activities.
- Aids in classroom behavior management.
- Aids in routine classroom functioning.
- Accompanies students when removal from a classroom is necessary or when the students must go to another part of the building.
- Aids in restraining students who may exhibit behaviors that are injurious to self or others.
- Aids and supervises games and free play, both indoors and outdoors.
- Aids the teacher in the implementation of activities that include but are not limited to: feeding, lifting, toileting, and other activities of daily living (e.g. grooming, hygiene, leisure/recreation, etc.).
- Lifts and transports students in conjunction with daily living activities.
- Teaching Assistants working with non-ambulatory students are expected to lift 40-pound loads independently and may be required to lift/move students weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance from another adult and/or with the use of appropriate lifting devices.
- Maintains working knowledge and ability to implement classroom and school wide safety plans.
- Discusses parental requests for information with the teacher before responding.
- Maintains confidentiality of student information.
