Certified Teacher - Elementary - 5th Grade

Location: Northpoint Elementary School, McLean County Unit District No. 5

Reports to: Building Principal

Full-time (1.0 FTE), exempt position

About the role

This position provides instruction to students and performs a wide variety of tasks including curriculum planning, supervision, presenting and reinforcing learning concepts, and teaching children in a 5th-grade classroom setting.

Responsibilities

• Teaches District-approved curriculum.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
• Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
• Implements the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives through instruction and action.
• Plans a program of study using a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Takes necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.
• Shows concern for the physical well-being and mental attitudes of pupils.
• Accepts responsibility for the conduct and behavior of pupils under the school's jurisdiction.
• Cooperates with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
• Attends staff meetings, serves on committees, and works on projects to improve the school program.
• Assists in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Ensures effective utilization of instructional materials for learning purposes.
• Participates in co-curricular activities as assigned.
• Establishes and maintains open communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
• Cooperates with community agencies to foster positive school-community relations.
• Pursues professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, or advanced coursework.
• Addresses individual differences among students and makes necessary provisions.
• Demonstrates knowledge and competency in the teaching field.
• Uses educational tools to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of classes, groups, and individuals.
• Assists in diagnosing learning disabilities with District specialists.
• Evaluates academic and social growth of students, maintains records, and prepares progress reports.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal.

Requirements

• Valid State teaching certificate for the position.
• Familiarity with computers, including email, internet, word processing, and spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
• Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and staff.

Pay

Per the negotiated contract between McLean County Unit 5 and the United Five Education Association for the 2026-2027 school year:

• Starting salary range for candidates with a Bachelor's Degree: $42,640–$52,319 (based on education and certified teaching experience).
• Starting salary range for candidates with a Master's Degree: $47,756–$61,017 (based on education and certified teaching experience).
