Certified Teacher - Elementary - 2nd Grade

About the Role

This position provides instruction to students and performs a wide variety of tasks including curriculum planning, supervision, presenting and reinforcing learning concepts, and teaching children in a classroom setting at Parkside Elementary School.

Responsibilities

• Teaches District-approved curriculum.
• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
• Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request.
• Implements the District's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
• Plans a program of study using a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
• Takes precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies.
• Shows concern for the physical well-being and mental attitudes of pupils.
• Accepts responsibility for the conduct and behavior of pupils under the school's jurisdiction.
• Cooperates with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
• Attends staff meetings, serves on committees, and works on projects to improve the school program.
• Assists in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Ensures effective utilization of instructional materials for learning purposes.
• Shares responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned.
• Maintains open communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
• Cooperates with community agencies to foster positive school-community relations.
• Pursues professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, or advanced coursework.
• Recognizes and addresses individual differences among students.
• Demonstrates knowledge and competency in the teaching field.
• Uses educational tools to evaluate student strengths and weaknesses.
• Assists in diagnosing learning disabilities with District specialists.
• Evaluates academic and social growth of students, maintains records, and prepares progress reports.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal.

Requirements

• Teaching certificate for the position as required by the State.
• Familiarity with computers, including email, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate courteously with students, parents, and staff.

Pay

Per the negotiated contract between McLean County Unit 5 and the United Five Education Association, for the 2026-2027 school year:

• Starting salary range for candidates with a Bachelor's Degree: $42,640–$52,319 (based on education and certified teaching experience).
• Starting salary range for candidates with a Master's Degree: $47,756–$61,017 (based on education and certified teaching experience).
