Job Summary

Assists the surgeon by providing and controlling the sterile instrumentation, supplies, and equipment required during surgical procedures at the Center. Assist in all aspects of care and maintenance of instrumentation, supplies, equipment, and the Operating Room itself.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively to patients, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Assists co-workers, anesthesia, physicians, and patients as necessary.
  • Aids in the orientation and supervision of new employees.
  • Aids in setting up equipment and opening sterile supplies to prepare for each operative procedure.
  • Aids surgeons during procedure according to prescribed standards.
  • Sets up table, instrumentation, and supplies according to the type of surgical procedure.
  • Maintains correct count of sponges and sharps according to standards and Center policy.
  • Maintains aseptic technique at all times according to standards and Center policy.
  • Aids in application of dressings, casts, and in moving patients according to standards and Center policy.
  • Decontaminates all equipment, instrumentation, and supplies according to standards and Center policy.
  • Compiles and makes available all necessary supplies and equipment needed for procedures.
  • Helps clean and maintain room, equipment, and furniture according to standards and Center policy.
  • Utilizes supplies, equipment, and resources to contain cost without compromising delivery of care.
  • Reduces chances of nosocomial infection by directing attention to infection control and environmental safety practices.
  • Gains knowledge of all equipment and supplies and is familiar with their location, especially emergency drugs, supplies, and equipment.
  • Aids in inventory, storage, and retrieval of supplies and equipment.
  • Helps clean and maintain rooms, equipment, and furniture according to standards and Center policy.
  • Aids with emergency procedures as directed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient and Center’s communications and documents.
  • Communicates a positive and caring attitude toward patients, peers, staff, physicians, and all other contacts.

Experience & Educational Requirements

  • Certified as a Surgical Technologist.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year Surgical Tech experience required.

Branford, CT
Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm. No weekends or on-call required.
