Job Summary and Qualifications

The Certified Surgical Technologist Surgical First Assist (CSTFA) provides technical assistance to physician/registered nurse in surgical procedures related to the operation of the Surgical Suite. The surgical technologist functions in the role of CSTFA after meeting the qualifications set forth and carries out the functions that will assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The CSTFA does not function concurrently as a scrub technician during the CSTFA component of surgical patient care. When necessary and at the discretion of the surgical services leadership, the CSTFA may also function as a scrub technician when not assisting in a designated CSTFA role.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from high school or equivalent program
  • Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Current Certificate as a CSTFA
  • Independently maintains Certificate
  • Minimum of 1 year recent experience in surgical services in the role of CSTFA required
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in three of the five surgical specialties: Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, General/Trauma, Urology, Colo/Rectal
