About the role
We are hiring a Surgical Technologist II (Operating Room Scrub Technician) to join our team at VCU Health Chesterfield Pavilion. The facility is a four-story, approximately 100,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center and medical office building scheduled to open in April 2027.
Responsibilities
- Set up sterile field and gather supplies for surgical cases based on knowledge of instruments and equipment to be used.
- Pass instruments to surgeons during surgery.
- Perform count procedures per policy during surgical cases.
- Serve as a resource and preceptor to less experienced Surgical Technologists.
- Takes call for routine and high acuity cases after the orientation period.
Requirements
- Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Hire: Registered by the State Board of Medicine and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) or Certified Operating Room or Surgical Technician (CORST) certification.
- Certification Or Registration Requirement For Continued Employment: Registration by the Virginia State Board of Medicine, Current AHA, BLS, HCP Certification, Current CST; TS-C or CORST required.
- Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of 6 months experience as a Surgical Technologist or related scrub tech position.
- Experience PREFERRED: 2 years experience as a surgical technologist or related scrub technician position.
- Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent, Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or a military training program or Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
- Education/training PREFERRED: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
Qualifications
- Independent action(s) required: Functions under the direction of RN or independent practitioner in providing direct patient care, emotional support and problem solving, all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policies and procedures.
- Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor for time/schedule changes, legal issues, direct care which deviates from the standard and identification of educational resources to meet developmental needs.
- Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.

Schedule
- Surgical Technologists work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with employee’s specific Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator.
- Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing requirements or in the best interests of the work unit.
