Certified Surgical First Assist

Job Summary

Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient during the perioperative experience. Utilizes the principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining the sterile field. Plans and provides equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs. Demonstrates competency in assisting surgeon as it relates to unit scope of care. Provides assistance and education to the scrub if unfamiliar with procedure or surgeon preference. Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the operating room. Treats physicians and patients as customers, being mindful of time and place for airing complaints or issues. Maintains a positive attitude and professional demeanor with surgeons, staff, patients, and the management team. Demonstrates flexibility by working with OR management and surgical team to cover call and staffing needs. Assists the staff with room preparation, turnover, and stocking of rooms and carts. Exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills on behalf of patient, self and peers. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital.

Qualifications

• Required – BLS Certification (30-day grace period)
• Virginia State License - Surgical Assistant
• Minimum of three years of Operating Room experience
• Preferred – At least one year of experience as a Surgical Assistant
