Certified Sterile Processing Technician - PRN

About the Role

Banner Surgery Center – Camelback, managed by Atlas Healthcare Partners, is conveniently located at the crossroads of Highland Avenue and 22nd Street in Phoenix, Arizona. This facility is equipped with four operating rooms and offers a comprehensive range of orthopedic services, including total joint replacements (hip, knee, shoulder, ankle), as well as procedures in hand, foot/ankle, podiatry, and sports medicine. The team is dedicated to providing exceptional care and ensuring a friendly and efficient environment.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, assemble, and package all instruments following established protocols, including cleaning, instrument identification, assembly, packaging, distribution, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation.
• Perform necessary repairs, reassemble, and store specialized surgical instruments.
• Prepare order requests for replacement parts for instruments and additional equipment as needed or upon physician request.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by adhering to Standard Precautions and Infection Control practices, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following decontamination protocols referencing manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU).
• Identify instruments for all specialties and ensure proper function; follow protocol for repair or replacement of malfunctioning instruments.
• Assemble and package all instrumentation and sets according to department protocol.
• Operate equipment such as steam autoclaves, ETO, and Gas Plasma sterilizers according to manufacturer recommendations and hospital policy.
• Maintain logs and records relating to the sterilization process, including Ethylene Oxide Aeration Records, Sterilizer Load Records, and Biological Monitoring Records.
• Respond to problem calls from the Operating Room and perform preliminary investigations.
• Determine priority levels for instrumentation and equipment requests and other hospital needs; direct services in a competent and professional manner while ensuring OR priorities are completed in a timely fashion.
• Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and professional standards.
• Provide excellent service by consistently demonstrating core and leader behaviors.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and BLS certification required.
• Current national certification as a SPD Technician, Certified Registered Central Service Technician, or Surgical Instrument Processor, or relevant experience qualifying the candidate for the national certification exam.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to break down moving parts, clean, lubricate, and reassemble instruments.
• Problem-solving skills for incomplete trays and missing instrumentation.
• Effective organizational, communication, and human relation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
