About the Role
Maintains accurate records of sterilization activities and inventory levels.
Operates sterilization equipment and inspects instruments, equipment, and containers to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
Performs decontamination of soiled instruments, sterilization containers, and equipment according to instructions for use (IFUs) and established protocols.
Corrects instrument sets according to current standards, established count sheets, and/or instrument tracking systems.
Maintains proper levels of inventory to ensure availability for case carts.
Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance sterilization processes.
Responsibilities
- Maintains accurate records of sterilization activities and inventory levels.
- Operates sterilization equipment and inspects instruments, equipment, and containers to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
- Performs decontamination of soiled instruments, sterilization containers, and equipment according to instructions for use (IFUs) and established protocols.
- Corrects instrument sets according to current standards, established count sheets, and/or instrument tracking systems.
- Maintains proper levels of inventory to ensure availability for case carts.
- Collaborates with the surgical team to ensure timely availability of sterilized instruments and equipment.
- Monitors and documents sterilization processes to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Troubleshoots and resolves issues with sterilization equipment and processes.
- Trains new staff on sterilization procedures and protocols.
- Ensures proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials.
- Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance sterilization processes.
Requirements
- Must be proficient in the English language.
- Knowledge of Sterilization Standards.
- Knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation.
- Knowledge and practice of infectious control techniques and medical terminology.
- Basic Computer skills.
- Successful completion of an accredited school of Sterile Processing or Surgical Technology.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of prevention of cross-contamination and the critical nature of nosocomial infections.
- Proficient use of all equipment.
- Ability to adapt to change and work in an environment that requires flexibility and dependability.
- Ability to lead others and work under stress and tight deadlines.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Technical/Vocational School.
Skills
- Knowledge of Sterilization Standards.
- Knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation.
- Knowledge and practice of infectious control techniques and medical terminology.
- Basic Computer skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of prevention of cross-contamination and the critical nature of nosocomial infections.
- Proficient use of all equipment.
