Summary

This class facilitates learning, academic achievement, and personal development by providing instruction to students. Responsibilities include developing and implementing curriculum and lesson plans, utilizing technology, and understanding diverse student needs.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates student performance through examinations, homework assignments, and other methods.
  • Maintains contact and communications with parents regarding internships, volunteering, and community service projects.
  • Develops, adapts, and updates curriculum according to District and school objectives.
  • Ensures classroom safety and maintains an appropriate learning environment.
  • Provides remediation and collaborates with special education teachers for special needs students.
  • Participates in staff development and professional growth activities.
  • Enforces school rules and takes appropriate disciplinary actions.
  • Coordinates co-curricular and extracurricular school activities.
  • Collaborates with other teachers, staff resources, and volunteers regarding instructional and program activities.
  • Orders instructional materials and supplies.
  • Assesses initial knowledge or skills and makes appropriate use of instructional resources and technologies.
  • Team teaches when appropriate.
  • Performs related duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Valid Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate/endorsement(s) 034 General Science, 7-12.
  • Knowledge of child development, classroom management techniques, instructional technologies, learning theory, and multicultural, gender, and disability fair curriculum concepts.
  • Ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations and apply PBIS and SRBI principles.
  • Excellent listening skills, human relations, mediation, conflict management, and interpersonal interactions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to evaluate student performance and present evaluations fostering higher student achievement.
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible.
  • Ability to plan and implement lesson plans based on District and school goals.
  • Ability to work in a cooperative learning environment.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Knowledge of core curriculum areas and specialized knowledge in certain fields.
  • Knowledge of educational philosophy, teaching methods, and approaches.
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies and learner outcomes.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, students' learning styles and needs, both academic and affective, and theories of multiple intelligences.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Some knowledge of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Scientific Research Based Interventions (SRBI).
