Certified School Nurse
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide healthcare to students and staff within the scope of his or her professional license including first aid, consultation, and emergency care.
- Oversee medication administration and administration of student health plans.
- Oversee and perform health screenings including but not limited to vision and hearing screenings.
- Participate in developing plans of care of students, including as part of the IEP team.
- Cookordinate with other staff including teachers, administrators, food service staff, counselors, etc. for the purpose of supporting student academic, physical, and social emotional success and wellbeing.
- Create and implement procedures regarding student visits to the health office.
- Create and implement procedures for data collection and reporting in relation to student visits to the health office.
- Follow ISBE and IDPH regulations for student exclusions and work to limit the number of students excluded from school for health reasons.
- Provide direction and supervision to the Administrative Assistant and the Staff Nurse within the Health Office.
- Prepare a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, lesson plans, substitute plans, etc.).
- Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
- Respond to and communicate with Administration, teachers, parents, guardians, and others effectively both in writing and in person/phone and in a timely manner.
Education, Certification And Experience
- ISBE PEL with endorsement appropriate for School Nurse or meet the ISBE requirements to be a School Nurse.
- Master's degree in counseling or related field.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

- Must be able to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, in English.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external constituents.
- Ability to make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Ability to deal with difficult situations courteously and tactfully.
