CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE ANESTHETIST (CRNA)

Essential Duties, Functions And Responsibilities

• Assesses patients’ preoperative physical status.
• Evaluates clinical history, performs physical examinations and laboratory tests.
• Determines the degree of risk involved in planned procedures.
• Chooses anesthetic techniques and agents based on patient conditions.
• Plans anesthetic management to suit patient needs.
• Selects and orders preoperative medications.
• Induces, maintains, and manages general anesthesia.
• Performs regional anesthesia.
• Maintains and monitors vital functions.
• Supports the surgeon during surgical procedures.
• Facilitates patient recovery by reversing drugs and managing airway, ventilation, and oxygenation.
• Follows up patients in the post-operative period.
• Manages respiratory problems in critical care areas and emergencies.
• Provides anesthesia care to patients of all age groups.
• Participates in the retrospective evaluation of anesthesia care quality.
• Maintains accurate documentation of practice standards.
• Completes a minimum of 40 hours of approved continuing education every two years.
• Maintains a substantial anesthesia practice and a current state license.

Experience

• No additional experience required beyond a completed training program as identified in the education qualifications.

Education

Completion of an American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) accredited program.

Licensure/ Certifications

• Active National Board Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (NBCRNA) Certification.
• Active, unrestricted Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist license in any U.S. State or Territory.
• Valid Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
