Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in the professional practice setting.
  • Supports and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues.
  • Delegates tasks to assistive personnel in a respectful professional manner.
  • Identify patient problems and collaborate with the Anesthesia / Surgeon / Perioperative team in the selection of appropriate interventions (tasks).
  • Interacts with members of the health care team to plan and coordinate the perioperative care.
  • Promotes a healthy work environment through promotion of professional communication standards, commitment to co-workers, and positive problem resolution.
  • Certain duties include conducting appropriate pre-anesthetic assessments, collaborating with the anesthesiologist to determine the appropriate anesthetic plan of management, managing all aspects of anesthesia care, providing airway management and/or intubations for emergent, non-emergent, and resuscitation situations throughout the hospital, and anticipating and exceeding patients and customers' expectations that meet all elements of the Henry Ford Experience.
  • Demonstrates, supports, and assumes personal accountability for consistently upholding team members to the standards across the System and adhering to Henry Ford Health policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes the unique contribution all health care team members contribute to the patient experience.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Independently uses and documents the nursing process to plan, deliver, and evaluate goal focused, individualized, safe, age specific care for all patients including those with complex pathophysiological needs and/or psychosocial needs.
  • Seeks to understand and incorporate both safe practices and evidence-based practices into daily nursing care.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory standards regarding practice, environment, and documentation.
  • Directs and delegates nursing care based on patient acuity and staff competency that is consistent with the nurse’s obligation to provide optimum patient care.

General Summary

Administers intravenous, inhalation, and regional anesthetics to render persons insensible to pain during surgical procedures, obstetrical deliveries, or other medical and dental procedures. Potentially administers anesthesia to all ages and ASA classes of patients, including geriatrics and pediatrics. Provides airway management services as needed throughout the hospital.

Education/Experience Required

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of anesthesia.
  • Master’s degree required.
  • Ability to work harmoniously in collaborative situations with anesthesiologists and other health care providers.

Certifications/Licenses Required

  • Required and maintains currency of:
  • Clinical Privileges
  • State of Michigan RN License
  • State Specialty Certification
  • CRNA Certification
  • ALS Certification
  • BLS Certification

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Frequent walking, bending, lifting may be required to perform duties.
  • Work is generally in an operating room environment, but can be in Radiology, ICU, ER, or wherever nurse anesthesia services are required in the hospital.
  • Working conditions are variable with exposure to communicable diseases and other hazards.
  • Driving may be required, dependent on specialty.
