About the role
The Certified Professional Journeyman Lineman Trainer plays a vital role in shaping the future of the linework industry. This position is responsible for delivering engaging, standards-based instruction that equips students with the technical skills, professional behaviors, and safety practices required for success in this critical and demanding field.
Responsibilities
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices, including OSHA standards and NESC codes.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, workshops, and conferences.
- Promote an enthusiastic, collaborative, and solutions-oriented environment.
- Deliver dynamic training through lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and practical field instruction.
- Develop and execute lesson plans aligned with learning outcomes and industry standards.
- Absess student learning through quizzes, tests, and skills evaluations.
- Provide clear, constructive, and actionable feedback to support student growth.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and safety-focused learning environment.
- Adhere to ALC policies, procedures, and the Instructor’s Pledge.
- Maintain professionalism, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ensure safety compliance at all times and prepare training areas, equipment, and materials for instruction.
- Evaluate student performance using competency standards and clear evaluation criteria.
- Offer individualized coaching during hands-on learning.
- Certify skill competencies only when proficiency is demonstrated.
- Model best practices through demonstrations and clear communication.
- Support and mentor fellow trainers to maintain a strong, collaborative culture.
- Build, operate, and maintain training facilities and equipment to ALC’s high standards.
- Participate in community events, campus activities, and public outreach.
- Protect the integrity of ALC’s intellectual property and confidential information.
- Serve as a brand ambassador during tours, presentations, and student interactions.
- Embrace new challenges and contribute to team and institutional success.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree preferred.
- Journeyman Lineman with 10+ years of experience.
- Strong instructional ability in both classroom and field settings.
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency with technology (iPad, computers, PowerPoint, MS Office).
- Demonstrated moral character without felony convictions.
- Ability to proficiently climb wood poles and steel structures up to 100 feet.
- Ability to work on utility customer property and a demonstrated record of no prior termination from employment within the line trade.
- DOL or State-recognized Journeyman Lineman certificate required.
- Class A CDL (unrestricted).
